Sodium Methylate- Catalyst for BiodieselHigh-performance Trace level Moisture Alkoxides (Alcoholates)Biodiesel is biodegradable, non-toxic fuel made from biolipids such as vegetable oils or animal fats, it is an excellent candidate to replace fossil fuels. It significantly reduces emissions when burned. Mostly biodiesel is produced using base catalyzed transesterification which exchanges the alkoxy group of an ester compound by another alcohol in the presence of acid or base catalyst. The transesterification process in biodiesel production is the reaction of a triglyceride with a bioalcohol to form esters (a biodiesel) and glycerol (a by-product). The most common form of biodiesel is methyl esters of long chain fatty acids , though ethyl ester biodiesel exits. Sodium methoxide is a very powerful base that is used as a base catalyst in the production of biodiesel. Potassium methoxide find similar applications.
